The school was established in 1976 and was named in honor of the prominent educator and philanthropist, Miss Maud McLeod. Maud McLeod High is a secondary public high school, where students have access to a nurturing learning environment. Since opening in September 1976, the school has grown from a population of 350 students to an enrolment of 1076. This is a remarkable achievement and it is also deemed as one of the greatest testament of Maud McLeod High. Over its 30 years of existence, it has evolved to come on par with some of the most outstanding high schools in Jamaica. Its opening and functioning, so far, has been highly appreciated by the community. Of the new secondary schools, it also has achieved the coveted title the 'pioneer school'. The school's motto, 'Determination is the cornerstone to success', is the driving force behind their achievement.
