May03rdWed Help Make the Chain of Hope in Jamaica Stronger

Heart defects are the number one birth defect worldwide. Over 400 children are born each year on the island with a congenital heart defect and your help with Chain of Hope Jamaica is one way to make a difference. Most of these children will die before their teens if they don’t receive the medical and surgical intervention they need. A further 2% will contract rheumatic heart disease, a preventable condition, yet there is currently no sustainable cardiac service for the children of Jamaica and the Caribbean.

Chain of Hope Jamaica gives children suffering from heart disease the opportunity to have life-saving surgery. Based at Bustamante Hospital for Children, the only Children’s hospital in the English speaking Caribbean, Chain of Hope Jamaica provides necessary consumables, equipment and supplementary staff to allow effective surgery and post-operative care to take place. They also facilitate the training of cardiac doctors and nurses and coordinate visiting medical and surgical missions by overseas partners.

Their ultimate goal is to have a sustainable paediatric cardiac service for the children of Jamaica and the Caribbean. Together with local and international partners, Chain of Hope Jamaica is working to build the first dedicated paediatric cardiac facility and intensive care unit in the English speaking Caribbean.

Since 2007, over 600 children have been treated with the assistance of Chain of Hope Jamaica. Help them to continue to mend little hearts by donating to Chain of Hope Jamaica.
